Week④:Mind MappingA

What is Mind Mapping?
A mind map is a graphical representation of topics, ideas, or concepts in a radial, non-linear manner. A mind map focuses on a central keyword or topic, with other items linked to and arranged around the central idea. Mind maps encourage a brainstorming style approach to planning and organizational tasks.

 Characteristics of a Mind Map

A mind map can consist of words, images and additional rich-media content(audio, video, digital files).  The arrangement or order of ideas is based on the importance of the concepts, and can be classified into groups, enforcing the relationships of the topics and their overall involvement with the central topic.   The introduction of mind mapping programs such as Matchware MindView allows for better productivity from your mind mapping sessions.

By including words, images and color schemes, a Mind mapping diagram allows for greater creativity when brainstorming ideas and documenting information, or planning for a project.  The arrangement of ideas and inclusion of contents enhances organization, memorization and presentation

     Uses of a Mind Map
Mind maps are used to visualize, organize, and classify ideas, making them perfect for study aids, organizing information, problem solving, writing and making decisions.
Mind maps have many applications in educational and business situations, including note taking and writing to creating agendas and running meetings.
Mind maps can be used for:

-problem solving
-brainstorming
-business plans
-SWOT analysis
-outlining documents
-collaboration
-creating presentations

The Origins of mind map

Although the term "mind map" was first popularized by British popular psychology author and television personality Tony Buzan, the use of diagrams that visually "map" information using branching and radial mapstraces back centuries. These pictorial methods record knowledge and model systems, and have a long history in learning, brainstorming, memory, visual thinking, and problem solving by educators, engineers, psychologists, and others. Some of the earliest examples of such graphical records were developed by Porphyry of Tyros, a noted thinker of the 3rd century, as he graphically visualized the concept categories of Aristotle. PhilosopherRamon Llull (1235–1315) also used such techniques.

The semantic network was developed in the late 1950s as a theory to understand human learning and developed further by Allan M. Collins and M. Ross Quillian during the early 1960s. Mind maps are similar in radial structure to concept maps, developed by learning experts in the 1970s, but differ in that the former are simplified by focusing around a single central key concept.

This is some interesting mind map I reaseached

I check the mind map website address from school blackboard, this website is very useful about undersdant and creative how to open my mind by mind map

 http://www.mindmapping.com/
This is that mind maping website screensshot

and the website catalogue very clearly. It has many language can change but can not change to chinese. It s not well to me haha

Week③:Brainstorming

Part① video: An interesting Selective attention test
On taday class, first we present last class the top (most interesting/creative ideas)
After that,we saw an video:An interesting Selective attention test. The test at beginning ,video give us a instructions:Count how many time the players wearing white pass the basketball andthen we see thers are six people interweave passing two basketballs. They keep passing , in halfway a gorilla across their lineup but they didnot stop pass the basketball. At this time, video show a instruction again, ask us How many passes you count.before 5 second, video show the answer is 15 passes and ask us Did you see the gorilla!?Take a look at this video! Test your observation skills at spotting how many balls were passed?

Part② 5 Unexpected Ways To Spark Your Creative Genius
Today lesson on blackboard has a very helpful article. When I finished reading this p ,I m surprising to find it is a great help to me if I want to be a real designer.
The great, 18th-century poet Friedrich Schiller, liked to have a smell of rotten apples on nose hand when manifesting his masterpieces.

Exhale: You needn't keep a compost of spoiled fruit around to do something great. While a strike of creative genius can't necessarily be forced, there are a few clever ways to get your juices flowing:

Use your nose. Maybe Schiller was on to something. When your head's not working, your nose might be of assitance. One study found those who were exposed to rosemary aroma had higher concentration and cognitive performance. Cinnamon and vanilla scents have also been linked to increased creativity -- so open that spice cabinet and take a long, deliberate whiff.

Do something utterly monotonous. You curse your day job for being oh-so-dull, but it might be just the place for your best ideas to incubate. One 2012 study showed that performing somewhat mindless tasks -- think assembly line -- liberates the mind to wander. The research speculates that this kind of subconscious thought may enhance creative thinking. Even if your job is incomprehensibly riveting (you lucky thing), you might benefit from the mundane. Gregor Mendel, the founder of genetics, would often count pea plants and honeybees. Most would argue the scientist reached great epiphany.

Turn off the telly. Though we all feel inexplicably inspired when watching bachelorette meltdowns , this kind of mindless activity is not one that fosters brilliance. One study reveals that watching such low-brow (sorry) entertainment actually makes us dumber. Called media priming, this concept suggests watching or reading a particular action will stimulate similar thought and behavior. This isn't all bad news: The opposite behavior garners the same results. So, watching (or reading) intelligent, creative or smart fodder could have a positive impact on your behavior. Feel free to get a little pretentious the next time you need fresh perspective and indulge in one of these books by candlelight.

Keep a dry-erase marker by your bathroom mirror. If you haven't experienced it for yourself, you've at least heard it before: Our best ideas often materialize in the shower. Unfortunately, we tend lose the insight by the time we towel dry. Take a tip from Austin Kleon, author of "Steal Like An Artist," to ensure that fleck of genius doesn't escape you. "If I have an idea in the shower, I write it down on my Aqua Notes pad, and if I have one after I step out of the shower, I’ll use a dry-erase marker to write it on the bathroom mirror," the artist told The Huffington Post. The waterproof notepad and the accessible pen provide a dual-insurance that'll keep both your ideas and you (no accidental shower-slips when you go to grab a pen) safe when sagacity strikes.

Write by hand. Scribbling something down when your devices are dead is one thing, but deliberately using a pen gives some permanence to your thoughts. In ink, a phrase or idea has the chance to live -- an opportunity to stew, fester and grow into something more. On the screen, with the quick double-tap of the delete button, it vanishes.

Even more, you'll be using more brainpower when you choose to write by hand: Virginia Berninger, professor of educational psychology at the University of Washington, says the act stimulates a much larger portion of the brain’s thinking and "working memory" regions than does typing.

Writing by hand might also pull you out of routine (since we're all so mercilessly plugged-in) and incite something new within. As author Lee Rourke writes in The Guardian, "The constant tap-tap-tap-tap on the keyboard reminds me of all the offices I've worked in. The sound bores into me, it fills me with an anxiety I could do without. I feel like I'm signing off invoices rather than writing my next novel." Perhaps paper is the escape you need.

This article in paragraph one mention a splendid poet Friedrich Schille.

Friedrich Schiller is a famous poet, writer, philosopher, historian and playwright in Germany 18 century. He is one of the representatives of the German Enlightenment Literature.Schiller is famous in the history of German literature, "Sturm und Drang" representative and he has also been recognized  German literature status after the great writer Goethe in the history.

This is Goethe and Schiller sculpture.

This article in paragraph seven has a good idea to get and accumulate creative. This way on my daily study life,my teacher always suggeat me do that.

I think a good designer, not only have good ideas, creativity, but also by some of its manifestations expressed, the idea must be transformed in order to be perceived by a particular carrier, this sketch is to express graphically design creativity and ideas, capturing memories the most direct and effective means. Sketches from the performance of the method can be divided into hand-drawn sketches and computer sketch freehand sketching fast, beautiful natural lines, giving a strong artistic appeal. This hand drawn lines and colors uncertainty is more likely to inspire people's imagination, making it possible to continue to generate new ideas. Draw a sketch of the process of the computer too long, mechanically, many ideas at the click of a mouse with a spiritual process of being boring mill gone.

Most of the designer's ability to design its Sketch creative ability has a direct relationship, good sketch ability to perform their creativity and design capability is relatively strong

Part③ I take some picture want try to broken rules

Good design work must be unique. How can it be done? Ithink it must be to broken the rules. How can I broken the rules? Maybe must have a strong ability to observe, to comprehend the things around there, there is the feeling and experience. The world does not lack beauty, but the lack of discovery of beautiful eyes. As a design student I must have a keen observation of ability.

Week②:Breaking the Rules

Part①Two video
Today class teacher give us saw two video.

Brain Tricks - This Is How Your Brain Works
※An interesting video on how our brain works.Maybe after watching this,it can help shed light on how we see and process things in real life. This video main content said your brain how to processes information. These brain tricks and illusions help to demonstrate the two main systems of Fast and Slow Thinking in your brain.

                 Apple-think different Commercial
Although this is a commercial for Apple,  what is interesting about the Ad is that it featured supposedly "crazy ones, rebels, and misfits".Try to think of personalities, events or occasions where rules are bent, broken or reset by innovators and game changers.

Part②Think 100 ways to...
In class, teacher ask us in group of 3 choose one of these. My group choose 100 ways to kill a cockroach
we do mind map about think 100 ways to kill a cockroach in the class. It s a funny time.We must finished write the 100 ways and then choose 20 ways best creative to do a presentation on next class. On the class our group did not finished the 100 ways.Over class,we go school library stick at the mind mip until finished it.I think this group work very interesting.Cause this group work,we had a good afternoon. In my opinion the best creative 20 idea are
1.Rocket flame spraying die
2.Death from overwork
3.Using a catapult shot
4.In the freezing dead
5.Tease by the hair andthen death cause can not move
6.Mashroom poisoning
7.Laser shot
8.Was killed by another cockroach
9.Looking a beautiful girl bathe ,too exciting to death
10.Frightened to death
11.Play with cat,cat eat it to death
12.People take a walk trampled to death
13.cooked to death by microwave oven
14.Infected and died
15.Be air conditioning blows to death
16.Dead by the my brother dermatophytosis
17.Drowned in the saliva by professor
18.Slipped and fell to his death by soap
19.Murdered were abducted
20.Excavator digging dead

Part③About today class some myself inspiration

The Apple-Think different Commercial video give me deep inspiration.I think as a Media&Design student,I must study Apple company spirit.

As we all know, think different always is one of Apple inc core value,so Apple inc also a wonderful design company.
After today class.I base on the Think Different and combine last lesson knowledge try imitate other designer s work ideas take some interesting picture.

This is an designer s design

I imitate this idea take this two.The first picture is our classroom computer host headest socket and usb socker. The second one I was take on our school toilet.Other smaller pictures one is a metal holder, one is my room attaching plug.

This is other designer s design work.About this work I think the designer want to make people can not resolution the bird real or just parting who seeing he work .designer remix the 2D and real world, real world also can construs 3D.Actually it just a 2Dpicture.

I imitate this idea take this two picture.
When I take this two picture. I prepared a number of props, spend a hour for stage set and adjust. I ask my friend help me to take the photo but I worried about my friend can not give me the effect like what I want ,so I take her first andthen show her the picture how I take.Use this way made her understand what angle, movement I want.
In the end I used saftware to develop these picture.

This one want to show the model can rush out from printing to real world

When i take this one.I want to use different way to mix real and printing

Week①:Introduction

Part ① understand Creative Thinking
I know this word on the first creative thinking class. The teacher ask us,what is creative thinking?I said Creative and Thinking, but I know this is not perfect answer. This question when i finished class,I still thinking. Before that day,I find this word appear on my design study everyday.
                today class some inportant things
1.what is creative and what is creative thinking
2.where do you get your ideas

The inportantly is I know NOTHING IS ORIGINAL
“ There is nothing new under the sun”this words make me understand what is creative thinking in one second.I research many picture on google.
This work rabbit and radish image, and open mind this idea I will give other picture to contrast below.
                                  This work use film image.

this one also clearly, use eyes image.

What can you find form these picture?I  find 2 things about thses three pictures
1.This three pictures form differdent disigner, but they work has similar ideas
2.This three pictures all ues other image to design

From this two I understand NOTHING IS ORIGINAL
1.Creative thinking from designer reference each other, study each other and accumlate.Thses accumlate ,develop, fuse, substitute, etc can be idea.
2.Creative thinking from our life.Anything on our daily life.

Like this two have similar idea, both use open brain this idea

This two also have similar element, the image key combine other ideas to expression design

What is said above all about designer reference each other, study each other and accumlate.
The following I will show the designer s work from daily life image.
This design use film image, very clearly.Designer make film image became easily and abstract logo.

This one combine city sketch and key image, key and city from real daily life.

Part ②Use Distance and difference thinking to see this world

In the class, teacher give us some interesting question to open our mind .One part question about make us use different angle to dispose some picture.

Other part about some characters logic game.
Question:
The merchant had borrowed money from the moneylender to equip his trading venture.
The merchant's ship had not returned on time, and it was presumed lost. The moneylender
came to demand payment of the debt. The merchant was pleading for more time. The
moneylender was insisting on immediate payment; otherwise, he would have the
merchant thrown into the debtor's prison. They were arguing the point in the merchant's
garden.

At this point the moneylender noticed the merchant's beautiful daughter. He told the merchant that in exchange for the daughter's hand in marriage, the debt would be canceled. The merchant rejected the offer. "You do not have much choice," replied the moneylender," but I am a fair man. I am going to pick up two stones from this path on which we are standing, a black stone and a white stone. I shall put both of the stones into this leather bag.Your daughter will put in her hand and bring forth one of the stones-without looking. If she picks the white stone, the debt is canceled and your daughter stays with you. If she picks the black stone, your daughter agrees to marry me and the debt is canceled. In all other cases, you pay the debt or go to debtor's prison."

Seeing that they would be no worse off and might even have a chance of escape, the daughter suggested they agree to the terms. She then watched the moneylender carefully and noted that he actually put two black stones into the bag. What was she to do? She could expose the moneylender as a cheat. She could take a black stone and then accept her fate or refuse to marry the fellow anyway. It was at this point that she used some lateral thinking…

Answer:
She put her hand into the bag and drew out one of the stones. Then she immediately
fumbled and dropped the stone onto the path. Once the stone had come to rest on the
path, there was no way of telling which of the many stones on the path had been the one in
the bag.

"Oh, I am so sorry," said the girl.
"It was a black stone you picked," said the moneylender.
"Nonsense," said the merchant. "There was not enough time to see the stone."
"Then we must start over again," replied the moneylender.
"That will not be necessary," suggested the girl. "All we have to do is to open the bag and
see the color of the stone that remains behind. In That way we can surely tell the color of
the stone that was taken by me." She took the bag and handed it to her father.

The merchant opened the bag so that all could see the contents. At the bottom of the bag
rested a black stone. "See," exclaimed the girl, "a black stone remains in the bag. So I must
surely have taken the white one." So the debt was cancelled. The girl remained with her
father, and almost everyone was happy.

In hindsight the girl's action is both logical and effective, but few people in the same
situation would have thought of it.

part ③Some of the thinking known and Types of thinking
Some of the thinking known:
• Critical thinking
• Analytical thinking
• Creative thinking
• Convergent thinking
• Divergent thinking
• Inductive thinking
• Deductive thinking
